Not really news I know, but I stumbled across this fantastic Pagani Zonda R video that I shot while at this years Goodwood Festival of Speed

The Pagani Team were displaying the Pagani Zonda R to the British public for the first time in the Sunday Times Supercar paddock, and also sent it up the hill climb as part of the the twice daily supercar run. The Zonda R is a track specific, race spec machine in the same vein as the Ferrari Enzo FXX and Maserati MC12 Corsa, although I must confess that I think the Zonda R beats them both hands down.

Pagani Zonda R video

Officially titled the Pagani Zonda R Clubsport, it pumps out 739 BHP with around 700 Nm of torque from its 7.3 litre Mercedes AMG V12, and sounds absolutely magnificent. It has a 6 speed sequential gearbox, and is neither road legal or FIA approved. The exhaust system is made from Inconel and ceramic coated to manage the enormous heat generated. It is mistakenly reported in Wikipedia that the ceramic coating is for heat dissipation - in fact the ceramic exhaust coating contains the heat within the exhaust. This has two main benefits - it prevents heat soak into the engine bay, and allows the exhaust gases to flow more freely, both of which have an impact on power output. It is unknown whether Pagani uses advanced creamic heat dissipation coatings on the radiators, oil coolers and differentials to cool the car when running at race temperature.

The Pagani Zonda R is widely believed to be a test bed for parts that will carry through onto the Pagani Zonda C9 which is due for release some time in 2010.

Despite the global economic meltdown, Pagani do not appear to have suffered, and it seems that many manufacturers have done well with their most expensive and exclusive models. Vehicles such as the Aston Martin One-77, Lamborghini Reventon, and Pagani Zonda Cinque have had no trouble finding buyers, and the value of used Zonda's has actually increased.
